Banana Oatmeal Cookies using Raisins.

All these Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the very best banana flavored cookie I have ever had. Not only are they really are moist and simmer for days, they are unmistakably banana-y.

Banana may be one of those flavors that can get lost once you inhale with it. It can be really subtle taste. It always bums me out if that occurs, cause I really like the taste of banana. And so does the hubs.

So when good flavored banana treats come together, we move a little mad for them.

These cookies make the list of banana items to go mad for. Without a doubt.

And they're so moistthey almost melt in your mouth. Additionally, using both oats and banana in them, they're basically healthy, correct? And perfect for breakfast!

Creating them is just as easy as eating them.

You start by mixing all those beautiful ingredients together.

I have to warn you. The odor of the mixture -- together with all the banana -- is equally intoxicating. The hubs was in the kitchen creating the dough together with me (we made a bargain that contained him baking with me) and we both had to work hard not to put our faces, or even a straw, right into it.

You then add all of the ingredients (which usually means you simply use one bowl yay!) And combine it all together!

To bake themspoon out about a tablespoon of dough and make a thick disc, rather than a chunk. They spread somewhat after baking, and therefore don't place them too close together. Bake them for approximately 10-12 minutes to get a nice, moist cookie. So yummy!

One other thing I love about this recipe is really where it came from.

My grandmother (my dad's mother ) passed out in 2008. After I started draining a lot a few years back, my uncle gave me cookbook that he'd had didn't use. I have had it in my list to produce numerous her desserts ever since.

It was a tradition for my grandmother to make them each Christmas! She also gave everyone a huge tin of these, which was really an effort with 6 sons.

I now know precisely how much of an accomplishment it had been! My goodness. She made them using a traditional gaufrette iron that goes over a open flame. My dad and I had them in the stove. They cook very fast and you have to be precise. Too long and they sort of disintegrated into the iron. As long and they burned into the iron and also we had to wash it out.

My dad was pouring the batter and removing the cookies, I was working the iron, the hubs was timing things. It required quite a few attempts to get it right, but they were so excellent! I have tried to create them again on my own and it works. I would really like to share the recipe, but the dang irons are so hard to find. And pricey. Sooner or later, I would like to just earn a cookie with the exact same gaufrette taste.

For today though, I'm sharing these biscuits. I don't think I had them when she made them, but they are from her novel.

It's such a fun recipe book to look through, also. There are so many handwritten pages, including clippings and paper recipes that were taped into the book. I adore the way that they used to compose recipes at the newspaper -- they had the individual who filed it's title and cute little tales. It is so enjoyable to read ! What a different time on earth!

Anyways, I don't really know where this recipe came from. The paper looks like it had been on a flier from their square dancing group or something (they were big to square dance ). It's undoubtedly from West Virginia, in which they lived.



Either way, I am so happy to finally share a recipe from her novel with you! I made a couple of changes to make them thicker and puffier and they are delicious. There'll be more to come out of her recipe book, but for the time being like the banana.

MOIST AND CHEWY BANANA OATMEAL COOKIES

Yield: 34-36 COOKIES


INGREDIENTS:

3/4 cup salted butter, softened (I use Challenge Butter)

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup mashed bananas

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch

3 cups old fashioned oats
